Artist in Residency Program

The 2016 Latin America and Caribbean Artist in Residency Program, was held for the very first time in the city of Hunan, China. It was the continuation of a series of events that celebrate Latin America & Caribbean year in China. Participants from several Latin America and Caribbean countries including Panama, Jamaica, Peru, Ecuador, Guyana, Colombia, Grenada, Argentina, Uruguay, Barbados and Costa Rica attended the two week residency from May 9th to the 21st. The artists had the privilege to visit the lovely scenic areas of Hunan such as Red Rocks, Zhangjiajie and more. They were then given the second week to complete a series of paintings that concluded in a final exhibition at the Department of Art, Hunan Normal University.

The exhibition included paintings, multimedia, mixed media and photography. After the successful opening, the artists expressed their gratitude to the Director and organizers of the event; China Arts and Entertainment Group, Deputy Director of Hunan Provincial Department of Culture Mr. Yan Fuchu, Secretary of Hunan Normal University Mr. Tang Xiangqing and the President of Hunan Artist Association Mr. Zhu Xunde and other Professors for making the event a successful and fun filled experience. They also expressed enthusiasm for China and its development and hope to return to China in the near future.
